PPP Forgiveness

The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness process is still evolving, but we are here for you every step of the way.

While the Small Business Administration has released its PPP forgiveness application, please be aware of the following changes recently signed into law under the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act:

  • Forgiveness period increased to 24 weeks (originally 8 weeks). This means you have more time to use your PPP funds.
  • Minimum amount that must be spent on payroll decreased to 60% (originally 75%). This means you can spend up to 40% on non-payroll costs, such as rent, utilities and mortgage interest.
  • Loan maturity flexibility up to 5 years. This spreads the unforgiven loan amount over a longer time period.
  • The deferral period has been extended. This means payments are not required until loan forgiveness has been determined.

Coming in August: Online Forgiveness Portal

We are working to provide you with a streamlined way to file your forgiveness application online. Please rest assured there is ample time to file. In the meantime, you can review the SBA's Forgiveness Application and gather the forgiveness information that we outlined in your loan closing packet email and be prepared to file soon.

The SBA recently released the PPP Loan Forgiveness Application for borrowers to complete.

The SBA also recently issued a new EZ Forgiveness Application for borrowers who:

  • Are self-employed and have no employees; OR
  • Did not reduce the salaries or wages of their employees by more than 25 percent, and did not reduce the number or hours of their employees; OR
  • Experienced reductions in business activity as a result of health directives related to COVID-19, and did not reduce the salaries or wages of their employees by more than 25 percent

As we await more guidance from the SBA regarding the forgiveness process, please review the application and begin to gather documentation. We also recommend reviewing with your accountant. We will continue to provide updates as we review the guidance and streamline our process to assist with PPP Loan Forgiveness.
